Happy Friday guys. Hope you like Rebecca Black lyrics. Here’s a little comic on summer reading I did for Jillian Tamaki’s last contest. She raised 800 dollars for UNICEF so word to that.

This past Friday I found out about a contest Jillian Tamaki had started to raise money for charity and to promote a new book on Irish mythology  she’s illustrated. The entrants were to donate to UNICEF and/or submit an image concerning a summer myth and the winners got copies of her lushly illustrated tomes and other goodies. I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity so I challenged myself to make it a weekend project as the deadline was a few days away. I got a lot of great inspiration from my friends while laying out on Carson beach on Saturday and quickly assembled a one-page about the myth that students actually complete their summer reading assignments. Give her your traffic at the above link to see the winning pieces and the honorable mentions, of which my piece is a part of.

I’ll post the piece on this blog in a few days but in the mean time here’s some super creepy architectural detail I came across walking to the T one night after watching the new X-Men movie at the Boston Common Cinema.

On a trip to the Brookline Booksmith this past week I found this great book. It’s a collection of statements by art directors, designers, illustrators, and authors about creating various Penguin book covers. Anyone who’s worked on something like a book cover or album cover knows how bizarre and surreal the negotiation and directing process can get. There are a lot of funny stories about the very deep chasm between sales and creative and how it’s (sometimes) successfully bridged. A few of my illustration heroes are even featured. Among the superstars are Tomer Hanuka, Chris Ware, former Parsons professor Tara McPherson and current professor Viktor Koen.

I’ve been working feverishly on a big painting. I’ve used my color blindness as a crutch for too long so I decided the way to strengthen my color sense is to do more traditional work like this.

Lastly I added some type to this image in my sketchbook late last night and I’m pretty pleased with my twilight doodling

I’ve been thinking about some tattoos for myself. I’m leaning towards a playing card. The lizard king of hearts.

TThe video artist I’ve been working with, Steven Grisé is going to SXSW to do visuals for some great bands like Streight Angular and DOM. He asked me to produce some material for him. I made these cassette cases and think they look pretty sweet. The artist uses a lot of analog technology to mix and master the VHS tapes so I decided to match him and use only spray paint, ink, adhesive, and varnish to finish the cases. To see his work and ask him about how the festival went visit his site here- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Hello! Good things to share. The goodest of them being that the second Gocco machine I ordered has arrived! The first never made it but it was all for the better since I scored a better deal for the second one off eBay. I immediately made these wolf card prints. I used spray paint and silk screen to make them and I’m selling the signed and numbered edition of 15 for the special introductory rate of $5 each. I also painted the grill of my bass amp. Ten points to the first person to guess what album cover it is. Bargain bin win: a 3′ x 4′ framed particle board with rounded corners for four dollars and 4 mini DV tapes for TWO DOLLARS!!! Thank you Boomerangs for never letting me down.

To buy your prints use the form below and remember:

These CARDS are printed on 100lb stock with 100% post consumer content
They’ll come with an envelope if you care to send one as a gift
The envelope also has 100% post consumer content
